Ian Cutler and his band the Hot Rats are well known in Kent for their own brand of Celtic Folk-Rock. The band consists of Ian Cutler on fiddle, Doug Hudson on vocals and guitar and Mick Peters on bass guitar and vocals. Recently I was chatting to Dave Cousins of Strawbs, when he mentioned that he needed a fiddle player for a concert he was planning. Knowing that Ian had once told me he would love to play rock fiddle with Pink Floyd I immediately suggested that he would be ideal for the part. Several months later, and Deal was treated to a "Night at the Blue Angel" with a certain Mr Cutler on fiddle ! The Blue Angel Orchestra as it was named was intended just to play at this one night event, however, due to the venue selling out, the delight of the audience, not to mention the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the players themselves, further concerts were inevitable, and there is now a Dave Cousins CD " The Boy in the Sailor Suit" which was recorded with the Blue Angel Orchestra. Click the Blue Angel link to go to my Strawbs homepage, from there you can link to more reports of performances by the Blue Angel Orchestra, photos and info on the other band members. During Broadstairs Folk Week 2005 the Hot Rats played at various venues including a finale concert on the jetty and the Pavilion Gardens where the lineup was slightly different from usual. Here, Ian and Mick were joined by their old friend Colin Reece, and Nigel Feist made a guest appearance on harmonica. Sept 2007 - New section added with info on Colin Reece, and photos from his 60th birthday party. To celebrate SJ's 40th
birthday, Ian and SJ arranged a party on 17th Sept 2005 at Theatre Les
Insolites Mike and I booked the Hot Rats in 2004 to play at our silver wedding anniversary party, and a great time was had by all.
